KCWC Fall 2012 Recap

Billy in his awesome coat!

Simplicity 2526 view B in a wool polyester blend. This took so long because it is the first time I have ever worked with plaids and I wanted to be very careful to match things up properly. The lines actually do match up in the front when the jacket is hanging straight.

By the time I was finished this coat I was a little tired of sewing. Instead of pushing myself, I took a break. I still plan to make a little hat to match =)

KCWC Fall 2012

I am definitely participating in Kids Clothes Week Challenge Fall 2012. I am going to post one long post at the end detailing all I did. I have a bunch of other posts this week so I will just consolidate!

Sunday Strategy # 1

There is so much I want to do this week. Most of it revolves around various Sew Alongs.

1. This week is the fall Kids Clothes Week Challenge over at Elsie Marley. I want to make a coat for Billy. I am going to use McCalls 6385 or Simplicity 2526. If I manage to get the coat completed I would like to make him a vest (Simplicity 1923). If I have time after all that I would like to work on Billy's Halloween Costume.
2. I need to do the fitting on my Colette Peony muslin for the  Colette 2.0 Sew Along. This is going to be a doozie!

I think that is enough to keep me busy for the entire week.

All in all I am pleased with the progress I made this week considering I did not have a sewing machine for 2 days. I like that the Sunday Strategy really helped me stay focused! Hopefully I can be consistent with posting them and then actually following my own plan.

1. Make my Colette Peony muslin for the Colette 2.0 Sew Along.
• Blogged here.
2. Get my patterns and fabrics together for Kids Clothes Week Challenge for next week.
• Ordered faux shearling from Hancock Fabrics.
• Chose Patterns
• McCalls 6385 - View B Coat. If my shearling doesn't arrive on time I will use Simplicity 2526.
• Simplicity 1923 - View C vest.
3. Finish fitting issues on Vogue 8615. I have already made this dress 3 times and still haven't gotten it quite right.
• I made up the pattern pieces with my adjustments but did not get to sew another dress since my machine died. I will try this one again in a couple weeks!

Monday's Sunday Strategy

I need something to keep me focused so I decided to start doing a regular Sunday post titled "The Sunday Strategy." I would like to outline what I am going to do for the week. I can also recap what I did the previous week. I want to list just a couple things and then anything else I manage to do will just be great!

This week I plan to:

1. Make my Colette Peony muslin for the Colette 2.0 Sew Along.
2. Get my patterns and fabrics together for Kids Clothes Week Challenge for next week.
3. Finish fitting issues on Vogue 8615. I have already made this dress 3 times and still haven't gotten it quite right.

Kids Clothes Weeks Fall 2012

I am so excited to participate in Kids Clothes Week again! I find that it is so much more pleasant to work on clothes for Billy because I don't have so many fitting issues to worry about. I'll have to start searching for my patterns!

Kids Clothes Week Challenge - Days 6 & 7

I was able to finish Billy's new version of Washday Blues from "Making Baby's Clothes" I am really happy with how it came out. I will definitely be making more versions. Sorry I don't have a good picture. Snickerdoodle was a bit uncooperative.

I took about 50 pictures and most of them were like the second one.

Kids Clothes Week Challenge - Day 5

Today I was able to get a lot of work done on Billy's new outfit from "Making Baby's Clothes." I am working on the Washday Blues design agan since the first version I made was far to large for him.

I still have to finish the hems on the sleeves and the bottom. Then a good press. After that, the pants!

Kids Clothes Week Challenge - Day 4

Today I am feeling much better. I was able to finish all 3 pairs of baby pants for Abel.

I am going to go start cutting the fabric for Noodle's outfit now!

Kids Clothes Week Challenge - Day 3

Yesterday afternoon I got "emergency wisdom tooth extraction" so I am not feeling incredibly crafty at the moment. However, I did want to work on the challenge at least a bit. Since I did not feel like sitting at the machine and sewing, I traced the pattern pieces for Billy's new version of Washday Blues from "Making Baby's Clothes."

I will try to get a bit more done tonight but I am not going to stress myself out trying to get at least an hour in today. Such is life.

Kids Clothes Week Challenge Day 2

Today, for the Kids Clothes Week Challenge, I worked on the pants for baby Abel. I continued with my assembly line approach and they have been coming together rather quickly.

Step 1: Sew all crotch seams.

Step 2: Trim to 1/4"

Step 3: Overcast edges.

Step 4: Press seams to the side. I usually press the front and back seams in opposite directions so there isn't a big bulky spot in the crotch.

Step 5: Repeat steps 1 - 4 for leg seams.

Step 6: Press up hems for the legs and waist bands.

Tomorrow I should be able to finish these up and start on some adorable pieces for the Noodle! I think I am going to make another version of Washday Blues from Making Baby's Clothes. This time I will make the 3-6 month size and hopefully it will fit. For the top, I am going to use the rest of the red gingham print fabric left from making these baby pants. I am going to use white twill left over from Billy's Halloween costume for the bottoms.

Kids Clothes Week Challenge - Day 1

For day 1 of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge I decided to make some little pants for my cousin Megan and her new baby Abel. He is not even 2 weeks old. I wanted to make a few different pairs to send her so I set up an assembly line.

Step 1: Choose fabric and pattern. My fabrics are all 100% cotton. I used my go to baby pant pattern from Made By Rae, Raes Basic Newborn Pants.

Step 2: Press

Step 3: Cut

Snickerdoodle started to fuss when I was finishing the cutting so it was my cue to clean up and cuddle. I did get in just a bit over an hour of work done so I met my goal. More tomorrow!

Kids Clothes Week Challenge
