Materials
1 skein size 6 super bulky yarn (I used Lion Brand Hometown USA 4.94 ounces/81 yards)
Size L (8.00 mm) crochet hook or hook needed to get correct gauge
Yarn needle

Gauge
9 sts = 5” in dc

Approximate Finished Dimensions
Adult 20” x 8.5”

Abbreviations
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
st(s) - stitch(es)
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet
rem - remaining

Notes
This pattern in written in American English terminology.
Rounds are joined with a slip stitch. Do not turn.
Instructions in *stars* are repeated the number of times indicated after the second *.
If you are not familiar with the magic loop, here is a good tutorial to learn the technique http://www.crochetme.com/forums/t/28917.aspx If you are still not comfortable with the technique you can chain 4 and join with a slip stitch instead.
Ch 2 at the beginning of a row does not count as a dc. I find that using a ch 2 and then dc in the same stitch keeps from getting the little gaps that often show at joins. Make sure to join to the top of the dc and not the 2nd ch of the ch 2 or you will be adding extra sts. If you do not like this technique, feel free to use a ch 2 or ch 3 as your first st and then finish the row as normal.

Instructions
Foundation Row: Form a magic loop. 6 sc in loop. Pull tight. Join with sl st to first sc. (6 sts)
Row 1: Ch 1. 2 sc in same stitch and each st around. Join with sl st to first sc. (12 sts)
Row 2: Ch 2. Dc in same st. 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next st. 2 dc in next st* 5 times. Join with sl st to first dc. (18 sts)
Row 3: Ch 2. Dc in same st. Dc in next st. 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next 2 sts. 2 dc in next st* 5 times. Join with sl st to first dc. (24 sts)
Row 4: Ch 2. Dc in same st. Dc in next 2 sts. 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next 3 sts. 2 dc in next st* 5 times. Join with sl st to first dc. (30 sts)
Row 5: Ch 2. Dc in same st. Dc in next 3 sts. 2 dc in next st. *Dc in next 4 sts. 2 dc in next st* 5 times. Join with sl st to first dc. (36 sts)
Rows 6 - 9: Ch 2. Dc in same st and in each rem st around. Join with sl st to first dc. (36 sts)
Rows 10 - 11: Ch 1. Sc in same st and each rem st around. Join with sl st to first sc. (36 sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

So so long

Life has been crazy! Baby on the way and such! Since I have had to spend so much time on the couch, I have managed to finish a boat-load of projects. Hooray for productivity (and reproductivity!) I will post some pics soon.

I heart spring!

Spring is the best season of the year. It is time to get outside and play in the dirt.

The vegetables we planted outside over the last few weeks are doing well. We have about 12 tomato plants, 3 tomatillos and 6 pepper plants out so far. We already got 2 Haba
ñeros off the plant we saved from last year. They are hot little monsters.

This year I am going to try a new technique for some of our tomato plants. I am going to create those upside down planters from old Hawaiian Punch 1.5 gallon containers. Hopefully the wind won't just tear the vines apart. I will post a picture as soon as I have one completed.

The strawberries are not doing so well. I think the sun is just too harsh for them. The same goes for the raspberries and the blackberries. Today I found some currant, jostaberry and gooseberry plants that are supposed to do well in our climate. I think I might pick up a couple of those and see how they do. I would love to be able to make jams and jellies with fruit from our garden. The cherry trees are doing great. We have a ton of fruit on them.

The Weather is Beautiful!

I have more pictures of the cakes I made for the baby shower. These are my monkey cupcakes. They look a bit silly were delicious. I thought they actually looked a bit more like bears but everyone else liked them.

I have also gotten some new plants. I started two small cactus and succulent gardens. I found these great pots at the thrift store for only a couple dollars and had to get them. They are perfect for a cactus garden because of their southwestern style. I collected some of the cacti a few weeks ago from area around our house where they grow wild.

Finally, the weather is beautiful! The hawthorn trees are blooming and they are gorgeous! This is a picture of the blossoms on our tree in our front yard.

Baby Shower!

Our friends Alicia and Ben are pregnant with triplets! Tomorrow I am having a baby shower for Alicia. I am making green shile stew, meatball sandwiches, cupcakes and the cake. The theme for the shower is jungle/safari. Here is the cake I made.

I will try to get pictures of the monkey cupcakes up later tonight.
